The University of the Philippines
Computer Science Guild (UPCSG) is gearing up for their Computer Science Week
that will be held January or February of next year.
According to Mary Louise Hermosa, UPCSG chairperson,
at least 130 computer science students will have the opportunity to visit a
wider range of companies in their tour, which is part of their celebration of
the Com Sci week this school year.
The organizers are targeting at least five companies
with Lexmark and Alliance as their top prospects. Other companies in their list
include Azeus and Kyocera.
This year’s celebration also features the annual Binibining
ComSci, wherein male computer science students dress in women’s clothes and
compete in a pageant; Amazing Race, which aims to bond computer science
students from different levels through physical and mental challenges; and CS
Talks with speakers from IT companies.
They will also exhibit projects of computer science
students during the school year and conduct a Photoshop Workshop. Contests on
programming and computer game Defense of the Ancients (DOtA) will also be held
as part of the celebration.
Rembrandt Cenit, a second year computer science
student, recalls how last year’s Com Sci week was a lot of fun. “I expect this
year to equal or exceed last year’s level of fun especially the Bb. ComSci,” he
said.
Christian Vincent Villa, who is in his first year as
computer science student, is also excited for Bb. Com Sci having heard about it
from students in higher levels. Aside from that, he is looking forward to a
week “filled with technologically-oriented activities.”
Meanwhile, sophomore Candy Mae Cari-cari hopes to
learn a lot from the games and contests.
Hermosa said that planning is still ongoing for this
annual week-long celebration of the Computer Science Program.
