ComSci Dept. Elects New Head

          After a month-long searching process, the Computer Science Department of the University of the Philippines Cebu, has finally named its new department head.

          Last July 16, 2013, Mr. Kurt Espinosa was appointed as the new department head of Computer Science.

          A search committee composed of professors from different clusters was responsible in facilitating the process of evaluating the nominees, and the final decision was made by UP Cebu Dean Liza Coro

          “Of course scared! It's a big responsibility. But soon [everything will be] back to normal. All my colleagues are very cooperative,” Espinosa said

Kurt Espinosa is new Computer Science department head.

          “[When my term started], there were a few problems of coordination, communication, and other minor things that can be resolved with proper communication,” Espinosa added.

Espinosa also shared his future projects and plans for the department.

          “We have strategic plans. There are lots. Basically it revolves around research, teaching and extension. So, based on the UP system framework of strategic plans, we have academic plans which contains research, teaching and also operational excellence,” he said.

          There are still plans that the new department head is currently refining. According to Espinosa, the documents of their plans are open to the public for those who are interested to read it.
