Another Step for UP Cebu: e-library at SRP

By Joelie Ann Pada

“Aside from elevating our different programs into departments and colleges to become a CU, it also goes with our facilities; we need to improve our facilities”, Dean Liza Corro, Dean of University of the Philippines Cebu, said.

The construction of the e-library at the UP Cebu professional school- South Road Properties (SRP) campus, as part of the development of the university to become the 8th constituent unit of the UP system, will start next month.

Engr. Albert Bascon of the Campus Development Maintenance Office (CDMO) and also the head engineer for the construction of the e-library said that it would be a four-story building, concrete, and circular in shape complete with elevator.

“No rooms, but will have an admin office, so mostly would be open space with just several divisions”, Engr. Bascon added.

The allotted budget for this project is more or less 75 million and will occupy about 5,000 sq. meters of the campus. The construction will be headed by Engr. Albert Bascon with coordination with the office of the vice- president for planning and development who sent Architect Mark Petoco for the said project.

The winning bidder is C. E. Padilla who was also the contractor of the UP Cebu professional school.

According to Prof. J. Karl Roque, Associate Dean for Administration, having the e-library will be certainly beneficial especially for the graduate students.

“There are no other facilities aside from the classrooms and the lab, so having an e-library at the SRP, the students have nothing but to gain”, Prof. Roque said.

The estimated duration of the construction is more or less a year according to Engr. Bascon.
