The sciences cluster of the
University of the Philippines-Cebu elected Dr.Jonnifer Sinogaya as the new
cluster chair last July 1, 2013.
The post
in the sciences department has been lying vacant after Dr. Lorna Almocera, the
former chair in the sciences cluster was appointed as the associate dean for
academic affairs.
Upon the
confirmation of Dr. Almocera's appointment, Professor Nelia Ereno was then
delegated as the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the sciences cluster.
In June
2013, the election for the post for cluster chair took place with two nominees,
one being Dr. Jonnifer Sinogaya and the second is Professor Nelia Ereno.
Dr.
Jonnifer Sinogaya finished his Bachelor of Science in Physics in the Mindanao
State University in the year 1987.
He
worked at the department of physics in MSU for 4 years as an instructor before
transferring to the University of the Philippines-Cebu in 1992.
He pursued
his Masters degree in Environmental and Material Science in Hiroshima
University in Japan in the year 1995 before proceeding to getting his PhD in
the same field and returning to the University of th Philippines-Cebu.
As the
newly elected cluster chair, Dr. Sinogaya shared the major strategic goals for
the sciences cluster which are in line with the strategic goals of the
University of the Philippines' System.
Academic
excellence and operational excellence are his main goals for the sciences department.
His
plans include education, research and creative work, public service, and
administrative efficiency.
The
strategic plans headed by Prof. Sinogaya will be effective by the year
2014-2017.
